Lava tubes - Undara
The tubes were created when molten lava moved along river beds that ran steeply downhill. Cooler air or damp sand meant that a crust formed around the hot flow, and this kept moving downhill until the eruption ceased, leaving an empty tube. Over time, weather erosion causes various parts of the tubes to collapse. This impression erupted as we drove away from our visit to Undara.
