Barkly to Katherine

The wind blows almost constantly here, from all points of the compass. Small concentric circles in the sandy soil puzzled me until I discovered they were made by the stem and head of a tiny grass. When the seeds are ripe the stem bends at right angles at the base and as the wind blows, it creates an iconic symbol.
