Man made as the first stage of the Ord River Scheme, Lake Kununurra had very practical beginnings but is a very beautiful place, and the bird life will tell you it's a good place to live. The rock formation, officially Carlton Ridge, is popularly known  as Elephant Rock, or The Sleeping Buddha, depending on your view point.
